Refugee stories: More than a tragedy

For years it has been emphasized that after the military operation “Storm”, launched at the beginning of August 1995, some 250 000 Croatian citizens of Serbian nationality were expelled from Croatia, probably in order to highlight the sheer scale of the drama that unfolded for the people who were forced to flee. Unfortunately, the number is far greater: more than 400,000 Serbs left Croatia during the war that raged on the territory of this former Yugoslav Socialist Republic from 1991 to 1995. Initially, they  started arriving to Serbia quietly “with two suitcases and a backpack” ever since the Croatian Democratic Party came to power in 1990. This bulletin features some of their stories.
