The Serb National Council’s section for social and humanitarian issues, along with the Serb Economic Society Privrednik, the Youth Network of Serbs in Croatia and the Krnjak municipality, is implementing the project “Knowledge and Wealth”. The first phase of the project consists of online training. This online education empowers, motivates, and educates young people to be able to write and prepare EU projects. It also introduces them to the process of social entrepreneurship and acquaints them with possibilities of self-employment and with the EU funds.

Through online lectures and workshops, participants have the opportunity to work on skills needed for developing project ideas that target tenders for projects within the framework of the European Union funds. Participants also learn how to become involved in development of social entrepreneurship and to make use of the existing measures and programs of self-employment.

The program consists of four parts:

  • Writing and developing projects
  • European Union Funds
  • Self-employment
  • Social entrepreneurship

Young people in Croatia face numerous problems, and the most pronounced are unemployment, social exclusion, the hard road to gaining independence, and lack of access to education, as well as the fact that education system does not correspond to needs of the labour market. The general goal of the project “Knowledge and Wealth” is to increase employability of young people and their ability to gain independence, and to support their inclusion in social and economic mainstream. Specific goals of this project are: 1) to better inform young people about measures and programs of active policies for (self)employment, and to encourage the fulfilment of their potential; 2) to improve young people’s skills related to (social) entrepreneurship, and encourage their networking. This project will allow a group of young people to be educated about concepts and legal framework of social entrepreneurship, existing measures and programs of (self)employment, about establishment and work of associations, about EU funds and how to write EU projects. Since rural and state-subsidised areas in Croatia are the most affected by emigration of young people, which leads to their depopulation and uneven development of the country, the program will also offer education about family farms. Through additional informal education and training, the young will acquire skills and knowledge needed to navigate the labour market and use new creative solutions in finding (self)employment. Employment and education of youth is crucial for sustainable development and for establishment of positive demographic trends.

In December 2020, the project team will organize online education about managing economy and an online round table about possibilities of employment for youth in Croatia.

The project is financially supported by the Central State Office for Demography and Youth of the Republic of Croatia
