On Wednesday, January 27th 2021 the Serb National Council opened SNC’s Banija House which will provide relief, legal and humanitarian assistance, and collect data necessary for the reconstruction and development of this area devastated by the earthquake four weeks ago. Apart from catering to SNC’s needs, the house will serve as headquarters of the Glina subcommittee of “Prosvjeta”.

“This location and moment are of historic importance, because, after days of suffering and destruction, we are now moving towards reconstruction and creation of a new concept of development and life in Sisak and Moslavina County and Karlovac County”, said Milorad Pupovac, who arrived to Glina accompanied by collaborators from the Serb National Council, Council for National Minorities in Croatia, and the Serbian Educational and Cultural Association “Prosvjeta”.

Pupovac stressed that Banija had been stricken by a combination of war, poverty, and underdevelopment on the one hand and the earthquake on the other, therefore the reconstruction of this area was an urgent matter. He concluded that the issue of reconstruction and development is a central question of our society and state.

The Serb National Council, together with Metropolitanate of Zagreb and Ljubljana and other organizations, distributed a total of 83 containers for temporary housing, while a delivery of additional 30-40 containers is on its way. It is worth noting that 83 families are still in need of housing.
